When Should I Have My Brakes Inspected?

Have you ever been driving down the road and slowed down at a stop sign to hear the car behind you screech all the way to a complete stop? It's annoying, right? Don't let that happen to you. Get your brakes inspected as soon as you see any of the following red flags.

  • Odd Smell - If you suddenly smell something sweet or acidic when you apply the brakes, that's a sign that something is wrong.
  • Spongy Pedal - A "spongy pedal" feels like the brake pedal goes down to the floor much more than normal.
  • Squealing Sound - That embarrassing squealing sound will start low, but will get louder over time if you don't schedule a service appointment to have it inspected. The louder it gets, the worse it is.
  • Shudder - Does your whole car shake when you slam on the brakes? That's a sign that something is wrong and needs to be checked out.
  • Warning Light - Don't ignore the bright orange or yellow brake light that may appear. If it illuminates, schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

Not only can bad brakes be annoying when they're going bad, but they can also be quite dangerous. If you have noticed one or more of these red flags, schedule a service appointment with our Kayser Chrysler Center of Watertown service center right away.
